2020 Skincare Routine
Hi! Wow its been awhile since I’ve written anything on my blog and I apologize for that! I’ve genuinely missed engaging with ya’ll on here and i’ve missed writing!
I recently shared on Instagram that I had changed my skincare routing as well as made some lifestyle changes which has resulted in my skin clearing up! I’ve dealt with acne for 5+ years now. Some of it could be hormonal, but I believe a lot of it had to do with what I was putting into my body. And before I get started, please take all of this with a grain of salt. Every body is different and what works for me, might not work for you.
Before I talk skincare, I want to address the lifestyle changes I made:
I started exercising more. Ya’ll… I NEVER used to exercise. It was bad. I was never really taking care of my body and it showed. I never work out to slim down or look a certain way, but instead, I work out because it makes me feel amazing. It releases so much stress for me which ultimately lessens the breakouts.
I focused more on what I was putting in my body. I would pretty much eat anything and everything. And to an extent, I still do. But this was taking a toll on my digestive system which was causing a lot of small breakouts around my mouth. I started focusing on whole & raw foods as much as I could. I also cut out meat by 90%. I won’t eat it unless I’m craving it which isn’t very often. I also read about food combining which speaks to what foods digest best together. Here is an example of what I eat in a day:
I start my day with a glass of water + probiotic. I love Mary Ruth’s Organic Liquid Probiotic. This step, I believe, has been crucial to clearing up my skin.
One of my favorite things for breakfast is yogurt + fruit + granola. Usually its Chobani Greek Yogurt, Blueberries + Raspberries + and Purely Elizabeth Grain Free Granola.
For lunch I’ll make a large salad. Usually with Kale, cucumbers, tomatoes, radish, chickpeas, avocado, and my favorite dressing which is (olive oil, vinegar, garlic, dijon mustard, lemon)
Current favorite snack: Mary’s Gone Crackers in flavor Super Seed // Paired with Roots Hot Chipotle Hummus
Dinner lately has been a big bowl of whatever I have in the fridge. For example one of my favorites: Quinoa, roasted sweet potato, broccolini, roasted chickpeas, mushrooms and brussels sprouts. With Bitchin Sauce drizzled on top.
Dessert is always dark chocolate!!
End my night with Rishi Peppermint Sage Tea
Y’all. DRINK WATER. Drinking more water can literally solve so many problems if you stick with it. My skin has cleared up, I have more energy, not as much brain fog, and so much more. I got this massive water bottle to keep track of how much I’m drinking each day!
Okay now, let’s talk skincare! As an influencer, I’ve been lucky enough to have brands send me lots and lots of skincare to try. And lately I feel as though I’ve really been able to narrow it down. One tip that I have: Allow a little bit of time to pass in between each step so that the product has time to work its magic.
This Living Libations Seabuckthorn Oil is the holy grail. If you’re scared of using oils, I suggest watching this youtube video which explains how to use this oil properly. I use this oil to cleanse and moisturize most days.
I then also cleanse with the Osea Ocean Cleanser . I’ve been loving this cleanser lately, it removes any impurities without stripping the skin.
This Paulas Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant has been a game changer for me. It keeps my skin glowing and has made a dramatic difference with my pores.
Next I use the Osea Hyaluronic Sea Serum. It gives my skin instant hydration.
On the days that I don’t use the Osea Serum, I LOVE the U Beauty Resurfacing Compound.
I use this Kiehl’s avocado eye cream
Finish with U Beauty Super Smart Hydrator
There’s a lot to take in on this post. And I still feel like there is so much to be said. But remember to listen to your body. Learn how to tell what it needs and when. I’m always here to answer any questions you might have!
